A musical comedy-drama about the social outcasts who make up the glee club at McKinley High School in Lima, Ohio. In the first series, Spanish teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) starts the club and protects it from the malevolent schemes of diabolical cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), all the while dealing with a troubled marriage and a mutual attraction to McKinley's quirky guidance counselor (Jayma Mays). The club's original core members are made up of pop-superstar wannabe Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), football quarterback Finn Hudson (Cory Monteith), and singers Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley), Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer), Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale). Football player Puck (Mark Salling) and cheerleader Quinn Fabray (Dianna Agron)—who spends much of the season dealing with a pregnancy—also join the club. The ragtag bunch of misfits rally to compete at a local Sectionals contest before facing off against even tougher competition at Regionals. The season's big guest stars include Neil Patrick Harris, Josh Groban and Olivia Newton-John, while Broadway favorites Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff play recurring characters.
