Call the Midwife Season 2

Genre: Drama
Premiere Date:
4.0
Series 2 opens on a festive day in 1958: Jenny's birthday, which means cake with her Nonnatus House friends and a movie with Chummy, Trixie and Cynthia. Her return to work the next morning is anything but fun, however, as she finds herself caring for a pregnant woman who's in an abusive relationship. Among the other challenges she tackles: delivering a baby with spina bifida; helping a man who lost most of his family to tuberculosis; and caring for a Jamaican mother-to-be with prejudiced neighbors. She also assists an intimidating doctor on the male surgical ward of short-staffed London Hospital for a time; and meets a young man who has eyes for her. Life is equally harried for Jenny's colleagues: Cynthia is suspected of malfeasance after a baby she delivered dies; newcomer Jane Sutton (Dorothy Atkinson) attracts the attentions of a vicar; Sister Bernadette develops feelings for Dr. Turner and catches tuberculosis; and the staff deals with identical twins who share a husband. Chummy, meanwhile, leaves Poplar with new husband Peter to pursue her missionary dreams, then returns with surprising - though not totally unexpected - news.
