ノースカロライナ州ファイエットビル出身。アフリカ系アメリカ人。モアハウス大学[1][2]とイェール大学傘下の演劇大学院に学ぶ。

2016年から放送のテレビドラマ『アトランタ』にアルフレッド・「ペーパー・ボーイ」・マイルス役で出演して知られる。
