中学3年生の頃、ドラマ『若者のすべて』（フジテレビ）に影響を受けて、芸能界入りを志しオーディションを受けるも、この時は叶わなかったが、名古屋市立富田高等学校2年生（16歳）の時に名古屋のサカエチカで、現在の所属事務所アオイコーポレーションの社長である葵てるよしにスカウトされた[14][16]。高校を卒業とともに上京し、1998年、ドラマ『せつない』（テレビ朝日）で俳優デビューした。
