Charlie Thomas Cox (born 15 December 1982) is an English actor best known for his starring role as Tristan Thorne in Stardust and for his supporting role in the second and third seasons of HBO's Boardwalk Empire. Cox will play the title role of Marvel's upcoming Daredevil TV series. Cox, the youngest of five children, was born in London, England, and brought up in East Sussex. He is the son of Patricia C. A. "Tricia" (née Harley) and Andrew Frederick Seaforth Cox, who is a publisher. His paternal ancestors may include 6th Earl of Lauderdale, Sir Andrew Agnew, 7th Baronet, Royal Navy captain Frederick Lewis Maitland, James Ogilvy, 4th Earl of Findlater, Sir David Carnegie, 4th Baronet, and a Colonial Governor of New York, Andrew Elliot according to genealogical peerage surveys.
Cox was raised Roman Catholic and was educated at two independent schools: at Ashdown House School in the village of Forest Row in East Sussex and Sherborne School in the market town of Sherborne in Dorset. He later trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol.
